Books have a way of changing people’s lives. In countless speeches that I’ve listened to, nonfiction books, and autobiographies that I’ve read, speakers and authors often talk about that one book that influenced their lives. I can relate as I have also had the pleasure of reading books that have given me a wondrously new perspective on things that I know and introduced me to new ideals.
When I think of my metaphysical journey, a subject five years ago I knew almost nothing about, five books come to mind. These are the books that began my exploration into the world of metaphysics.
A New Earth by Eckart Tolle
This book was given to me by my best friend’s mother, after her son had passed in the summer of 2010, and prior to my own mother’s passing in the summer of 2012. Although I cannot recall the exact date, I was still living in Georgia at the time. I do however recall her saying I was ready. In my mind, I thought, “Ready for what?” Once I began reading the book, it was clear that I was indeed ready. It’s been a while since I’ve read this book. It has quite the sentimental value to me as it signifies a turning point in my psychological and spiritual evolution which can best be described as that “point of no return”. You cannot un-see what you have seen. I find copies of it in thrift stores all the time and eagerly pass the copies along to my interested friends. It is my hope that the book will affect their lives in the profound way that it has affected mine.
Proof of Heaven by Dr. Eben Alexander
I discovered this book after my mom passed in a desperate attempt to find just that, “Proof of Heaven”. I needed answers. Where was my mother? Is she safe? Is she ok? Is she truly at peace? That is when I happened upon this story about a Neurosurgeon’s journey into the afterlife. Out of pure curiosity of the barrage of unknowns I was facing, I dove, head first into the book. I read this book faster than I’ve ever read any book in my adult life. Because I am a firm believer in the fact that energy cannot be destroyed, only transferred, I devoured every word in a quest to satiate my curiosity as to the current state of my mother’s life force. This quest was one that only continued to pique my interest as I delved deeper and deeper into the realm of metaphysics.
Chakra Awakening by Margaret Ann Lembo
My life was grossly misaligned. I went to visit a psychic to help me figure things out. For $60, she performed a tarot reading, mentioned a few things about meditating, chakras, and handed me a quartz crystal gemstone and instructed me on what to do with it. I followed those instructions and began to look into chakras, and semi-precious stones. I’m not certain exactly how I came to arrive at this title but I know it was purely by divine intervention.
I had recently received a legal injunction that forced me to return to Florida. I wanted to be so far away from the state of Florida that I was half wishing it would fall away from existence. Purely divine intervention; as I was reading the book, Margaret, the author, began talking about her metaphysical store located in Boyton Beach, Florida. I had no idea where Boyton Beach was but I quickly discovered that it was only 45 minutes away from where I was in Broward just south of West Palm Beach. Did someone say ROAD TRIP! I was excited to get away and for the very first time. I was excited to have the opportunity to see, smell, hear, and touch the world of metaphysics. New Age and Metaphysical stores are my newest splurge of choice. Although you can find lots of cool things online, I love visiting the physical stores.
Practical Metaphysics by Shaun Moss
I became overwhelmingly curious about the world of metaphysics. I wanted to buy all the books I could find on Amazon, but I was going through a tough point in my life. I didn’t have much money and more often than not, I didn’t have any money at all. Although the digital versions delivered to my kindle were much less expensive, I had to start looking into my “free” options, which brought me to the “Free books about metaphysics PDF” search. It was here that I discovered this book, number three on the first page of the Google search engine. This book offers a very thorough beginning to your metaphysical journey, explaining in a less Yoda way, the very basic ideals of metaphysics; simple and to the point. One of the best things about this free PDF downloadable book is that it gives you so many other resources, books, websites, authors and the like to further assist you on the metaphysical journey. This book is excellent, excellent study material as you discover the full range of metaphysics, and go through and highlight the principals and areas that most interest you. I now own several books as suggested my Mr. Moss, and revisit this book quite often. I recommend it to my friends as well. You can check out the book here on his website, Practical Metaphysics.
Every Word Has Power by Dr. Yvonne Oswald
This book gave me an entirely new perspective on the saying, “It’s not what you say; it’s how you say it.” I must admit that I was a bit skeptical about words actually having the power to change your life in some drastic or notable way, but that has since changed.
Dr. Yvonne Oswald speaks about the power of words; which words to use and the way to use them in order to bring positive change and receive more of the things you want in life. She talks about accessing self confidence, an empowered presence, and attaining an elevation in your thoughts and perception. I still practice many of the exercises she recommends in her book and I always walk with my head held high in a deliberate and confident stride.
Reading this book made me more curious about the power of words and what other areas of my life I could change. This journey eventually led me to the Masaru Emoto water molecule experiment and publications by Wallace D. Wales and James Allen.
My metaphysical journey can best be described as AMAZING in all caps just like that. I have learned so much. I have grown so much and discovered an entire world of concepts and ideas that align with my innate beliefs. I am grateful to been have introduced to it by Ms. Z.
